ICCX Latin America 2012 - The first in the Americas!

From March 20-23, 2012, the first ICCX Latin America will take place in Florianópolis, in the South of Brazil. Following the typical ICCX concept, a very unique meeting place for the precast industry will be established there, providing participants with up-to-date know how both from local and international origin.
Both conference speakers and exhibitors will come from Latin America as well as abroad, and thus a broad overview about recent developments can be presented to the industry. Technical Courses, social meetings and plant tours will complete the program of this event that is supported by the most influencial industry associations of Latin America.
Technical Courses on March 20 will be held in the conference hotel Majestic Palace in Florianópolis, the conference and exhibition will take place on March 21/22 in the CentroSul Exhibition Center, and on March 23 plant tours will bring the participants to leading precast companies in Santa Catarina.
March 20: Full day Technical Course on Precast Concrete Design
Arnold van Acker from Belgium, former chairman of the fib6 commission for prefabrication and awarded with the FIP medal for outstanding contributions, will present the new version of the handbook for prefabrication that was produced by the fib6 commission for prefabrication during the past years. The former version of this handbook was distributed since 1997 with nearly 50.000 copies all over the world, and in 2012, the new updated version will be launched. The course will teach basic and advances concepts of precast concrete design. Engineers, architects, designers, students, academics and precasters themselves will learn beneficial information in this course that will be presented in English language.
March 20: Half day Technical Course on Quality Control for Precast Concrete
INTEMAC is a private and independent Spanish quality control organization, that is focusing on precast concrete since more than 40 years. INTEMAC is constantly following different trends of precast concrete design, production and application, and they are monitoring the quality of precast concrete in each of these phases. Jaime Fernández Gómez, the president of INTEMAC, will present in this half day course concepts to avoid typical mistakes and he will give solutions how to reach higher quality levels for precast concrete in general. This course that will be given in Portuñol is mainly attracting precast producers and also the associated construction industry.
March 20: Half day Technical Course on Concrete Technology
Michael Khrapko, a self-employed concrete technologist from New Zealand with lots of overseas experience in precast and readymix concrete design, will present a half day Technical Course on „Providing consistent quality while changing cements, aggregates and admixtures". The knowledge provided will enable the participants to deal with quality changes of ingredients that might come through changes of cement suppliers, product changes etc. This course that will be held in English will attract mainly concrete technologists, both from the precast and readymix industry.
All participants of the Technical Courses will be invited to attend the Welcome Reception that will take place in the hotel penthouse of the Majestic Palace Hotel in the 21st floor, with beautiful views on Florianópolis.
March 21/22: International Concrete Conference with simultaneous translation and Exhibition
Shuttle busses will bring guests staying in the Majestic Palace Hotel or in the Ibis Florianópolis in the mornings of March 21/22 to the CentroSul Convention Exhibition Center, centrally located in Florianópolis.
A two day conference program, set up together with the supporting associations to make sure that recent challenges and interesting topics for the attending industry will be covered, will be presented on March 21/22 in the CentroSul Exhibition Center.
The conference topics will include recent developments of the Brazilian precast industry and opportunities for Ibero-American cooperations of precasters. Project developments, infrastrucure and quality assurance will be discussed, and special sessions will focus topics for the precast industry, concrete pipe and manhole industry as well as for block and paver manufacturers.
The presenters will come from South America, Europe, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand, and a wide range of topics will be presented to the audience. The whole conference program will be simultaneously translated into Portuguese, Spanish and English.
During the same days, the exhibition will open their doors to the visitors. All exhibitors will have same sized information booths where they will present their products and services. The exhibitors will come both from domestic and international regions and thus a wide range of companies will be present in the exhibition.
March 23: Plant tours in Santa Catarina
On the last day of the event, March 23, 2012, plant tours to leading precast factories close to Florianópolis will be organized. Companies such as Cassol Pre-Fabricados and Blocaus in Florianópolis will present their factories and production facilities, giving an inside view into current state-of-the-art production of precast concrete in Brazil.
